CWJ Food Bank Challenge: Week 1 Recap

Things I learned in the past week have been invaluable.
Home brewing a cup of coffee cots around $0.05/cup vs $5 from a coffee house.  Even with coffee and creamer, it clocks in at around a mere $0.10/cup.  That's between 50-100 times cheaper depending on how you take your coffee!
We stretched 1 whole chicken into 17 individual meals.  That's right, I said 17 meals!  I'm just as surprised as you are!  We had roast chicken the first night (3 servings since we had company), then we made 4 servings of chicken noodle soup, 4 servings of chicken fried rice, and 6 servings of chicken and dumplings. This clocks in at a mere $0.59 worth of chicken per serving… $0.59!
You can make a huge bowl of homemade mac and cheese for a mere $0.60.  Also, Kraft Dinner is now $1.99 per box.  When did this happen?  I remember back in day (oh dear god, it's happening) when it was less than $0.50 a box!  As far as I know we only went to school uphill one way though.
Here are all the first week's posts, together in one place!
