Maple Glazed Gingerbread Donuts

I've had this recipe for gingerbread donuts dancing around in my head for quite some time now.  There's just something about gingerbread spices that make me feel all warm and cozy inside.  Even just the smell of gingerbread puts me in the holiday spirit instantly!  These donuts are quick and easy - from start to finish, your family can be enjoying these soft and cake-like donuts in around 20 minutes!

When my cousin Terri (who is an Epicure consultant) shared a flyer on her Facebook page advertising a sale for their silicone donut mold, gingerbread spices, and vanilla sugar grinder, I knew I had to get in on it!  Not only do I regularly purchase Epicure's seasonings and spices, all of my baking sheets, measuring spoons, measuring cups, pans, and even a couple of pieces of bakeware all came from them!  Their products are seriously high quality, and have all really lasted me throughout the years (and I bake a lot!).

When I messaged Terri to put in an order this time around, she suggested that we co-host a giveaway!  I'm always interested in sharing products that I love with you guys, so I decided that it would be a fun way to kick off the holiday baking season!  You can find the giveaway at the bottom of this post.

If you are interested in learning more about Epicure, which is Canadian company that sells high quality spices and seasonings in addition to cookware, you can find more information here.  Their entire catalogue is gluten, nut and peanut free!  If you are interested in ordering some of their great quality products for your own kitchen (or perhaps for someone for Christmas?), you can find Terri's consultant page here.  Epicure ships to anywhere in Canada!

Ingredients
- 1 cup all purpose flour
- 1/2 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp baking soda
- 1 tbsp gingerbread spice*
- 2 tbsp butter
- 1/4 cup maple syrup
- 1 tbsp molasses
- 1/4 cup heavy cream
- 1 egg

*If you don't have gingerbread spice, you can sub for the following:
- 1 1/2 tsp cinnamon
- 1 tsp ginger
- 1/4 tsp allspice
- 1/4 tsp cloves

Frosting
- 1 cup icing sugar
- 1 tbsp butter
- 1 tbsp maple
- 1 tbsp cream
- 1 tsp molasses

or
vanilla sugar

Directions

Pre-heat oven to 350 degrees.

Combine flour, baking powder, baking soda, gingerbread spice together in a medium bowl.  Add butter and mix until mixture resembles coarse meal (I like to use my hands for this, it makes the process easier).

In a separate bowl, whisk together maple syrup, molasses, cream, and egg.   Pour onto dry mixture and mix until just combined.

Spoon mixture into a piping bag and pipe into lightly oiled silicone mini donut mold (the dough will puff up quite a bit, so only fill them 1/2 full.

Bake for 8-10 minutes, or until donuts feel springy.

Frosting

Mix ingredients together in a bowl.  Once donuts are cooled, dip the tops into frosting, or go frosting free and simply sprinkle with vanilla sugar.
