Devlin's Pizza Pretzels

Last week I hosted my very first Virtual Cooking Class we made my Easy Homemade Pasta.

Everyone had so much fun, I decided to keep the classes going for the foreseeable future.

Every Sunday at 1PM MST, I'll be hosting a FREE Virtual Cooking Class with guest chefs from my community!

This week my good friend Devlin Griffiths, owner at Cold Creek Clothing in Hinton, Alberta made his famous Pizza Pretzels!  Every time Devlin makes pretzels for his family, he always makes sure to save me one (or two if I'm lucky!).  He's been a big supporter of Cooking With Jax, and lucky for us, he was game to be a guest chef immediately when I asked him!

Ingredients
- 1 1/2 cups warm water
- 2 1/4 teaspoons dry yeast
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon white sugar
- 1 1/2 tablespoons butter (melted)
- 3 + 1/2 cups flour
- 5 cups water
- 1/4 cup baking soda
Directions
In a large metal bowl, combine yeast, warm water, and sugar, and let sit for 1-2 minutes to allow the yeast to bloom.
Add butter, salt, and 3 cups of flour.
Knead for 3 minutes.
Set oven to proof (or minimum temperature).
Cover bowl of dough with clean tea towel and allow to rest for 20 minutes.
Boil 5 cups of water.  Add 1/4 cup baking soda and remove from heat.
Shape pretzels, using remaining 1/4 cup of flour as needed.
Once pretzels are shaped, put them in a soda bath for a couple of seconds.
Sprinkle with pretzel salt and bake in oven (400 degrees) for approximately 10 minutes,
until they turn golden.

The owners of our local liquor store The Wild Orchid Liquor Co. have been guests of our classes (hi Brian & Tracy!), and were kind enough to offer wine recommendations that would go really well with these pretzels!  If you're local to Hinton, they will even deliver!

Not only that, they will be teaching next Sunday's class (and are sure to offer some great wine and liquor recommendations!) which you can read all about/register for HERE.
