I volunteer on the social media team with The Wild Mountain Music Festival in my hometown. I was not compensated for this post, I simply love volunteering for my community. As always, any thoughts, opinions, and recommendation are 100% my own]
I love community. If you've followed along with my blog for any length of time, you'll know that next to food, supporting artists and investing in my community are my other passions. That's why when The Wild Mountain Music Festival in my hometown asked me to volunteer with their social media team last year, it was an obvious choice - it combined all three of my favourite things.
I later learned that the festival is 100% volunteer ran, which is incredible. This is part of the reason that I adore where I live so much - the passion and dedication of the volunteers in our community is so strong, I'm honoured and humbled to be a part of it.
When the rolodex if life memories plays back for me, The Wild Mountain Music Festival will always be a shining star. It's not like other festivals, just ask Tim & Mohsin, two of last year's performers that I had the privilege of interviewing, and getting to know a little bit better throughout weekend.
Because of the remote nature of the festival (and because it's simply just that awesome), many of the artists stick around for the entire weekend, and mingle with the crowd. Everyone there becomes one big family, from the vendors to the volunteers, from the performers to the festival attendees - a great time is had by all, and the feel good vibes are aplenty.
In addition to great music, the festival also provides free camping for weekend pass holders. I can't think of many things that are better than falling asleep under the stars to live music, and great memories, followed by waking up to the sounds of birds chirping, the view of the majestic Rocky Mountains, and the smells breakfast food wafting into your campsite.
Which brings me to the the Festival Food. Glorious, glorious festival food.
I was so inspired by Wild Mountain 2017 that I re-capped my experience and made this recipe for Jerk Chicken, based on one of the vendor booths I frequented heavily throughout the weekend.
