The thing about bourbon is, I don't like making cocktails (that aren't
old fashioned's) with it.
Bourbon, in my opinion, is its own star, I usually like it on its own.
Some ice, let it melt for a couple minutes, happy.
Other thing about bourbon is, none of my friends can drink it straight.
Bourbon doesnt have the peatyness of Scotch. It doesn't have the
give-you-a-headache punch of rye. It has a sweetness, a smoke, and a
spark that makes for a complete character itself, let alone when it's
adds to a cocktail.
I find this recipe respects the whisky, letting it stay whole at first
pour over the ice, slowly adding a sweet and a sour that's finished off
nicely with a final kiss of hickory. It's enough whisky I'll drink it,
and enough cocktail my friends will too.
What I'm saying it, even a whiskey lover will forgive you for drinking a
whisky cocktail like this... once you get them to give it a taste.
Ingredients
Lemon Cordial
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 tablespoon golden syrup
- 4 lemons zest
- 4 cups lemon juice
- 1 cup key lime juice
Lemonade
- Opt - 1 cup moonshine (remove 1/2 each lemon/lime juice or don't)
- Slush
6 cups ice (measure using blender, level as able)
- 2 cups cordial (poured over ice, after cooled)
Directions
Lemon Cordial
The cordial mix needs to be boiled until thickens to a simple syrup. Will keep up to 2 weeks in the fridge.
Lemonade
Blend until smooth.
Pour into cocktail glass.
Pour 2 Oz bourbon onto spoon back over ice
(Pouring over spoon will help prevent immediate melting, allowing
bourbon to spread over more ice before melting).
Smoke using Breville's Smoking Gun according to manufacturer instructions.

I do like the fact that there are so many options to the smoking gun including different flavoured wood chips. This cocktail would be great or a smoked Caesar!!?
