Best of 2013

I can't believe that 2013 has already come to an end!  A lot has of really great things have happened for me this year, both professionally and personally, and honestly I could not be more excited to see what 2014 will hold!

Thank you to everyone that follows along on my blog, takes the time to leave comments on my posts and interacts with me on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Pinterest.  I feel like you guys are with me every time I'm in the kitchen, cooking along side with me!  Your comments are truly what inspires me to share my love for creating recipes with you!

To cap off the new year, I've complied a list of the top 10 recipes of 2013 according to page views.  Here they are :

Chicken Noodle Soup
This recipe was featured both in The Hinton Voice and on the Daily Burn.  No sooner did I post this recipe, did I get the flu - aka one of my least favourite weeks of 2013.  Needless to say, I was incredibly happy to have a fridge/freezer stocked full of this soup.

French Onion Dip

I love French Onion Soup and everything that tastes even remotely like it.  This French Onion Dip is made with yogurt, so it's a healthy way to enjoy one of my favourite flavours!  After taking this picture I promptly took this dip over to the Hinton Voice staffers to sample - it was after all the recipe I wrote about in my June column for their wonderful paper!

Pumpkin Spice Cupcakes
Being as how I live deep in the mountains of wintery Alberta Canada, seasons don't always look how they should.  Fall sometimes comes as early as August, and other times as late as November.  One thing's for certain - the second I have my first sip of a Starbuck's Pumpkin Spice Latte, it immediately feels like fall to me, regardless of what it looks like outside my window.  These cupcakes are everything I love about fall all rolled into a sweet and tiny package.

Raw Hemp Brownies

This is a recipe that I made for Manitoba Harvest.  These brownies are absolutely delicious, and taste like a sinful dessert rather than the healthy treat that they are!  I know I will be making plenty of these in January when I'm trying to stay away from sweets to make up for my incredibly indulgent December.
Apple Chips

Marc's Memere (Grandmother) makes the most delicious soft apple rings - every time I make this recipe, I think of her.  It's another recipe I'll be hitting hard come January - and one of my favourite ways to enjoy the bountiful apples of fall.

Greek Salad Skewers
I made these for a friend's barbecue this past summer.  She had the brilliant idea of a "Food-on-a-Stick" theme and I had an absolute blast thinking of different recipe ideas to make for her party.  I finally settled on these, another favourite Uncle Frank recipe of mine, with the twist of being served on a stick!  I had the honour of Foodista featuring me as their "Blogger of the Week" in August and this is the recipe they chose to showcase.

Traditional Irish Shepard's Pie
This recipe went viral on Pinterest one day and suddenly my inbox was flooded with a ton of comments about the spelling of "Shepard's" vs "Shepherd's".  I have extremely conflicting characteristics that include being both nicknamed the "Grammar Queen" (I even get to proof read our local newspaper before it goes to print on occasion) and being the worst speller in history (fun fact: I can't spell definitely without first looking it up).  For the record, the correct spelling is "Shepherd's Pie".  I left the name as "Shepard's Pie" though - this recipe became so popular though, clearly there are other spelling challenged people out there just like me!

Chewy Chocolate Chip Cookies
These are the best chocolate chips I have ever made in my life, period.  I even had to issue an apology to my Gramma in the first paragraph of this recipe after saying so.  They are soft, chewy, and quite honestly, perfect.  If you don't make these I will totally understand - having to apologizing to your Gramma for calling these cookies better than hers will kind of suck.

Homemade Fruit Snacks
I first published this recipe around Valentines Day because I wanted to use my cute little heart shaped cutter.  Then in July I also ended up making these with the kid's over at Discovery Camp (a summer camp for kids) for their "Cooking" day - they were a huge hit!  The kid's even sent me a cute little thank you note after our fun day together.

Chocolate Avocado Pudding
This was one of my first recipes of the year and one of my all time favourites!  It's a genuinely healthy dessert and tastes amazing - my husband could hardly believe the ingredients after sampling it!  It's not only vegan, but raw as well, so it's a great dessert to serve that everyone can enjoy.   This is another recipe I tend to make a lot in January!

Well there you have it, the top 10 recipes on Cooking With Jax for 2013!  I hope you enjoyed making these recipes as much as I did!  Did your favourite recipe make the list?
