I don't eat wheat-free per se (follow Weight Watchers), but I try to pack in the nutrients during breakfast and lunch so I can share a somewhat more indulgent (but still healthy) dinner with my family. I've been eating either steel cut oats or Holy Crap cereal for breakfast so this is awesome! The toasting seems to make them nicely crunchy, but easy to chew. The base recipe can be made into several different flavours - to have your cereal taste like the "Holy Crap" name brand cereal you would then add the ingredients listed under "Holy Crap Recipe". Hope that helps. :) Jacqueline Delislehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04654612470752702148noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6403922746088394173.post-48692781143889783092013-11-07T09:36:20.552-07:002013-11-07T09:36:20.552-07:00Thanks for the recipe! I eat steel cut oatmeal every day, and since I discovered holy crap I've been adding it to my oats before cooking and it cooks up so creamy and delicious, just sweet enough. Expensive though. So thankful for your recipe, especially the piña colada version! Had it this morning and was super tasty. Also made a version with dried currants, dried cranberries sweetened with raspberry juice and almonds. So much more variety in breakfast now! The ratio is closer to 2:1:1 Chia seeds, Hemp Hearts, Buckwheat, so you would need to add at least 0.75 cups to the base.

I encourage you to try the above ratio vs yours and see what's the closer formula. You can eat buckwheats both by soaking and by cooking, however they are raw in this recipe (though somewhat softened by the addition of either milk or yogurt). They aren't nearly as tough as steel cut oats, but certainly not as soft as hemp hearts. They crunchy, but in a good way (I really like them). Hope this helps, I am a bit new to buckwheat myself. :)Jacqueline Delislehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04654612470752702148noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6403922746088394173.post-32109396737860835662012-04-02T06:14:14.544-06:002012-04-02T06:14:14.544-06:00Thanks for posting this. I do have a question about the buck wheat.....is this stuff hard like steel cut oats (needing to be cooked or soaked) or soft and nutty like the hemp hearts?
